4×5 Photography

I don’t use my Horseman 6×9 medium format back on my large format camera enough. I really love the results I’ve gotten from it in the past even though on this roll I only got 4 out of 8 shots that I think were ok. The 6×9 aspect ratio feels really natural for a lot of types of shots and at times I miss having my Fujifilm GW690 camera still too. Despite it only being a fixed lens range finder with no meter, the results were always extremely sharp and it made it very quick to setup and grab shots that I can’t do anywhere close to as fast with the 4×5.

These few photos from the roll still came out well enough, though I still want to get the next results sharper or with perhaps better control over the depth of field. I have a roll of Kodak 500T in the back now that I’ve been waiting for the right nights to bring out and shoot with. Hopefully I can get some good semi-foggy nights and car stuff shot with it. In general I haven’t been using my 4×5 enough for the past few months, but that should change as I have some projects and travel lined up this year.

Last summer when I went back to New Hampshire to shoot the Subaru Climb to the Clouds hill climb event, Cameron and I spent a few days prior to that shooting some other things first. We spent some time at his friend and race teammate, Alex’s, garage to shoot some photos and video for his business. My black and white film photos were shot with my Toyo VX125 on Fujifilm Acros 100 and the color photos were shot with my Rolleiflex 6008 on Kodak Portra 400. the This may become my new format of showing photos I’ve shot. I’m thinking to post a couple of my favorites to social media and then post full sets in the blog and then later rotate my favorites into the portfolio.

May 21st – Messy room and still decompressing from work travel. I can’t even remember what I did other than some laundry and working on more developing.

may21st

May 22nd – Paint projects, got the Evo 7 wing all cleaned and scuffed, ready to drop that off with the car at the body shop as soon as it’s back from getting the transmission done. The valve cover is coming along slowly, even after a few rounds of aircraft stripper some of the original paint really doesn’t want to come off. I need to figure out a better way to prep this for its new paint.

May 23rd – The new building next to mine is almost up to my floor. Kind of bummed how fast it’s coming up. Looks like I also didn’t expose this shot long enough, guess I metered too much where the construction lights were.

May 24th – Some of my other cameras, just getting ready to expand my 365 to using any of my cameras rather than only the 4×5.

May 25th – Actually spending some time to work on music again, I feel like I don’t put a lot of time into it since I get overly picky and frustrated easy and end up going back to working on visual arts.

May 26th – Mugi, chilling with me on her favorite chair. I guess most things around here might be her favorite places to sit though.

May 27th – Packed up and ready to go, I was suppose to go shoot at a drift event, but my buddy wasn’t able to make it due to a friend of his crashing before we even made it to the track for the day.
